Confirmation

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation is a sacramental outpouring of the Holy Spirit that leaves a permanent imprint on the soul, completes Christian initiation, and empowers us to be witnesses to Christ. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1302-1305).

Our goal at St. Thomas Aquinas is to bring the gift of faith alive in the life of your child and to provide tools for the confirmandi to take into the wider world and live a life that includes God.

In the 9th Grade, students will learn about:

  • God as the source of our happiness
  • The person and mission of Jesus Christ
  • The power and purpose of the sacraments

In the 10th Grade, confirmandi will delve deeper into the Sacrament of Confirmation by looking at:

  • Who the Holy Spirit is and what He does for us
  • Why Mass is key to life now and to our eternal life
  • How to build a life of virtue

It is crucial for your child to attend every class because each lesson builds on the next.
Each grade meets every other week for approximately twelve sessions.

In the 10th Grade, confirmandi are asked to:

  1. Complete a sponsor form and bring it with them to Sponsor Night on October 29th;
  2. Complete a saint name form and submit it by January 7, 2024;
  3. Complete three service projects; and
  4. Participate in a day retreat at St. Basil Chapel, BSU.

As the primary educators of the faith (CCC 2223), your support and participation in the Confirmation process are invaluable.

There are two things that will contribute to your child’s experience:

  • Praying with and for your student
  • Participating in the sacramental life of the church, specifically Mass and Confession

By giving your child this irreplaceable support, you are cooperating with God in His work of salvation.

"Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them;

they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the holy Spirit."  Acts 8:14-17
