"There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; varieties of services, but the same Lord; varieties of activities, but it is the same God who inspires them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good."

1 Corinthians 12.4-7

St. Thomas Aquinas Religious Education

We are dedicated to the central mission of making known the Good News of Jesus Christ to the youth of our Parish Community. The True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist is the very core of our work and mission to those whom we serve in His Name.

Religious Education Program Summary

Our program is blessed with more than 1650 students and 130 volunteer teachers, aides, and hall monitors. We are most fortunate to have a beautiful parish center containing 10 classrooms and a large gymnasium to accommodate the numerous classes that meet each week. There is an atmosphere of community and collaboration in our Religious Education Program. The Program is joyful and hopeful in its expression of the True Presence of the Risen Christ among us. We invite you to come and join us in this blessed work. If you would like to explore the possibility of becoming a catechist please call the Religious Education Office for an appointment.

This program attempts to satisfy the needs of our many students in allowing for greater flexibility concerning class assignment of days and times.

Our curriculum throughout the program is based upon the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Grades 1,3,4,5,6 use the William Sadlier series, "We Believe." Grade 2 students are prepared for First Penance and First Communion using the Liguori's "Preparing Children for the Rite of Reconciliation" and Preparing Children for the Sacrament of Eucharist." First Penance is normally received prior to January 31st and First Communion is normally received in May. Our parish celebrates four First Penance and six First Communion celebrations to accommodate the large number of students. Junior High School students study Morality, New Testament, and the Creed using Sadlier Youth Ministry materials. The Confirmation Program is a two year preparatory program, Level 1 normally completed in Grade 9 is based on the Fireside Catholic Youth Bible. A number of speakers are included in the level 1 curriculum on a variety of topics including Right to Life, Aids Ministry, the Rosary, Drugs and Alcohol. Speakers are enlisted from the appropriate Diocesan offices. Level 2 of the Confirmation Program meets the first Tuesday of every month from 7-8:30PM, and is based on a Teen Life approach. Mass attendance is required of all students preparing to receive Confirmation.
